Grandpa-George hosted John Grider of BrokenCrow at The Art Institutes International Minnesota’s Print Production class. An ongoing stencil-based large-scale collaborative art experiment, BrokenCrow’s work can be found in the Minneapolis area at Grumpy’s on Washington, as well as several other local establishments.
Mr. Grider talked to the Ai students of Douglas Brull’s Print Production class about his stencil technique, artistic style and provided spray painting tips. In addition, stories about recent project work, client relations and tales of street artistry were shared.
Through meticulous preparation in their stencils, combined with an aggressive painting style and work ethic, BrokenCrow seeks to create a dialog between foresight and spontaneity in the work John Grider and Mike Fitzsimmons produce, while simultaneously reintroducing wild animals back into the urban habitats that we humans live in.
The effects of their efforts live somewhere in the vast gray area between street art and public art, as yet undefined by the art history books and bloggers alike. If they have brightened your city, they are happy to have done so. If you have a wall you’d like them to paint, they’d be happy to know about it.
You can contact BrokenCrow at their official website.
